Neighbour balcony wall

What would you do if you see this from your window?

I did the following:
  1. Emailed him the photos and requested him to remove the wall.
  2. Talked to him to remove the wall but he refused, saying it is his side of the house.
  3. This morning the wall is partially removed, but still not enough for me.

I will call MPSJ later today.

Update

My wife persuaded me not to call MPSJ. We will let the issue slide for now.

Even if I did call MPSJ, then MPSJ will come and investigate and ensure no illegal structures or extensions are built, ensure proper architect building plans are followed. Isn't this a good thing?

By my silence, am I an accessory to a crime then?

  1. To maintenance a good relationship, i suggest better deal directly to your neighbour again before going to MPSJ. Since he/she already remove partially of the wall after your 1st complain.
In short he/she still respect you.

  2. Suggest you to talk to him and find a win-win solution.

If MPSJ stops the renovation, you yourself will suffer too - abandoned house. There are few in Puteri 12.

But yes, the balcony is so ugly.

  3. sometimes people simply renovate without considering their neigbours. It's definitely an illegal renovation as the whole facade of house is changed. So ugly!

Do u think you will be able to coerce him to tear down? Personally, I have talked to such neighbour but they are very nasty indeed. No choice but to call MPSJ.

  4. Calling MPSJ is the last option as always. Is good to have him lower the wall more as he will get a better view too and that doesn't block your view.

But if he still naughty then no choice!

  5. I feel sorry for your predicament but what you did was right, ie. informed him and threaten to call MPSJ when he refused. You did good for everyone in puteri 11...bcoz you sent them a warning NOT TO TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED by simply renovate and extend their house without considering neibors....
One of the consideration in buying a house is the environment. If a house surrounded (car porch and back) by high walls, it is like a jail !! besides blocking the air circulation and resultant warmer environment...

  6. MPSJ is quite strict now. Firstly, check with MPSJ whether your neighbour got submit any plan and if yes, whether the plan has been approved? If no plan submitted or the plan not approved, and if he started reno work, then your neighbour commited an offence under council law.

Just to give you a heads up, whatever reno proposed on the house facade must get signed consent from left and right neighbour. Has your neighbour got yours?

The question to ask yourself is whether you want to live with a neighbour who builds a freakish balcony soaring out like a misfit facade.

There is a reason why people must submit their plans to local council for approval. If not, then we will have Tom, Dick & Harry renovating to their whims and fancies.

  8. thank you for all your comments.

i did sign a consent for renovation, but not for facade change.

of course i don't want to live with such a neighbour. he built a balcony to walk out to enjoy nice view and fresh air but in return he built a wall to block my view. he did not even enquire me what height to build the wall. he just built it as he liked and hoped that i won't make a fuss.

i had pleaded him not to build the balcony but he ignored me. apparently it is for his good feng shui purpose.

i guess in life you meet all kinds of people.

if he did no wrong, he should have no worry even if the mpsj do come in. if the mpsj find the renovation is illegal then isn't it better to rectify it now than to wait for an accident to happen? what if the structure are not stable due to no proper architect plan? then his family might get hurt if the balcony collapse.

anyway, i have to move on and hopefully he won't do more silly stuffs.

  10. Understand your predicament. Probably the guy never thought about the effect of such renovation and when you raised your concern it was already too late since the structure was already up. At least he was considerate enough to knock down part of the wall. Frankly, I have never stood at that part of the house/window to enjoy my view. I would advice that you make up with your neighbour. And if your neighbour is reading this, he owes you an apology and he has to be frank about this and do not say things like 'my part of the house' etc.... sounds very low

  11. back to principle... is this kind of extension allowed by mpsj at the first place?
was thinking, mpsj might have approved "X design", but owner build "Y design".

  12. Hi! I am a Puteri 11 resident. I notice that the garbage man collects my trash only once a week? My garbage bin fills up very fast and I need to really tie them up tightly so to reduce any stench whatsoever. How do we request for more frequent garbage collection in our area? Can anyone help?

Also I notice that the leak from the manhole as we pass the Puteri 11 guardhouse (bayu puteri side)is still not addressed. Can someone help?

  13. I always can't figure it out that why spend so much in renovating a house instead of buying a bigger ones.

Renovating this kind of structure will make our houses like 'Jinjang'.

  14. Without prejudice, more than 50% of Puteri 11 residance renovated their house without getting approval from MPSJ. If MPSJ comes, I guess they wouldn't check this house only.
