ReplyDeleteGuarded neighbourhoods: Only Malaysian, Nepalese guards allowed
By NG CHENG YEE
KUALA LUMPUR: Only Malaysians and Nepalese employed by licensed security companies are allowed to be guards at guarded neighbourhoods, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung told Parliament Tuesday.
He said according to the ministry's Gated Community and Guarded Neighbourhood guidelines introduced in September this year, security guards of other nationalities were not allowed to work at these neighbourhood.
"They must also be able to speak in Bahasa Malaysia or English to work as security guards at these housing schemes," he said.
Chor was asked by Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa (PAS-Parit Buntar) to state the efforts made to tackle the problem of security guard services at private residential estates and the requirements set by the ministry.
Chor said initially, the ministry had no intention of setting guidelines for guarded neighbourhoods.
"However, it has become a trend for housing schemes to set up guarded neighbourhoods and many residents want to engage security guard services to safeguard their homes," he said.
On Dr Mujahid's comment that the fencing at some existing guarded neighbourhoods limited the access of residents from other neighbouring housing schemes, Chor said local authorities had the right to abolish such features.
"However, local authorities will give time for existing guarded neighbourhoods to abolish such features if they do not cause major problems to the residents, " he said.
He said residents who wished to set up guarded neighbourhoods could consult their local authorities on the specifications and requirements set by the ministry.
Malaysian and Nepalese guards are very expensive as compared with the other nationalities. Only the very upmarket residences can afford to hire them. It does not sound practical Mr Minister.
ReplyDeleteDear Residents,
ReplyDeleteMay I clear my position as a Resident of Puteri 11.
I am not a committee member, nor Auditor for the RA. I am just a volunteer to the security operation.
